Croissants and Paris

Goodness, typing on a French key board can slow one down a bit! Not to mention the language barrier. I have been blending my limited Spanish with the five words I know in French. Creating a new language, FRANISH.  Imagine the strange looks I have received! But, here we are in Paris. Already had two chocolate croissants, the BEST! with a cappuccino.

By coincidence, our hotel happens to be in a Jewish section and today is Purim. The story of Queen Esther and her request of the King on behalf of her people. A terrible man, Haman wanted to get rid of all the Jews by deceiving the King to do it.

People were dressed in costumes, from the kiddos to the adults. Israeli music blaring in the streets. Very festive.  I even bought Hamentachen cookies and a loaf of Challah.  All of which are childhood memories. Randy and I were asked to join in the festivities as it would be a mitzvah for my husband as he has a Jewish wife! We were going to attend the reading of the Torah, but, regretfully, we did not after seeing armed guards posted outside. A reminder of what is happening around the world.

We visited a cemetery walking distance from our hotel, Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise. Established in 1804. It has 69,000 sepultures. It was unbelievable to take in the entirety of this cemetery. It went on and on, up and on some more. So old. There was even a seplecure for two princesses: All glass with statues of two young maidens, setting this one apart from all the others, It seemed ominous to me. Perhaps a tragic story.

Tomorrow we will visit Versailles. Bought tickets today for a day trip there. Exciting!!!!!

Keep you all posted.....B'ahavah, Randy and Ilene

This being the last remaining day before the dawn of our departure, I quietly reflect on how this day is different than the other days of preparation before today. I have deemed this day as my ceremonial day...one of mikvah, cutting of my hair, trimming of my nails, submerging my heart into the waters in preparation for discovery, relationship, revelation and renewal.

As all practical things have been set in order it is a moment to review,  am I spiritually prepared for my long pilgrimage? God only knows. I am just taking HIS hand and that of my husband as we are to begin this journey of a lifetime....
